Report from the front line: CSM at UCAS

Going forward with Lifestyle and Education...

Going forward with Lifestyle and Education...

Our stand at the annual UCAS fair in Manchester was really popular.

Carol Morgan, our very own global trend tracker, writes:

Students made a beeline for the CSM Time newspapers (download your copy here) for the ‘how to apply’ info and grabbed a piece of CSM with our cool tote bag.

We had students queuing to talk to our beguiling staff and students – see pic below. It wasn’t just the glamour, but the first hand information from tutors and students that impressed people. Prospective students instantly identified with the college and we felt proud to be representing our school.

Future undergraduates considered carefully how to progress their careers and all the courses received lots of enquiries. People were keen to hear about the move to Kings Cross and enthused about the idea of all the schools being on a single site.

Two reviews of CSM Presents: Grayson Perry

Grayson Perry by Jack Laurenson

I attended the astonishing talk of Grayson Perry at Cochrane Theatre, marking the publication of artist’s monograph by Jacky Klein. Grayson Perry is known for his controversial ceramic vases and cross-dressing.

He appeared as his female alter ago, Claire. I knew that it wouldn’t be just another lecture as it felt rather bizarre to see a grown-up man dressed as a doll.

1 Minute to Save the World!

CSM alumni Panagiota Chaidogiannou and Thomas Hebdon’s short film is being shown at the Climate Summit in Copenhagen.

Panagiota and Thomas had the following to say:

Upon discovering the 1minutetosavetheworld competition we were excited by the challenge of creating a film on such a prominent issue that we are passionate about, but within the constraints of 1 minute. The thought of having our work shown at The Copenhagen Climate change conference was appealing, definitely a new audience! We thought it a good idea to combine Flash generated animation with stop motion animation to create distinction between the computer game and the outside ‘real world.’ All aspects of the film were completed by ourselves. This was our first collaborative project.

Congratulations to Anne-Marie Duff and Tom Hard, both Drama Centre alumni, who’ve won prizes at last week’s BIFAs (British Independent Film Awards.

Tom Hardy won Best Actor for his portrayal of Charles Bronson in the film “Bronson” and Anne-Marie Duff won Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of John Lennon’s mother in “Nowhere Boy”. Michael Fassbender was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his work in Fish Tank

Coming hard on the heels of Colin Firth’s Best Actor Award for “A Single Man” at the Venice Film Festival, this bodes well for the BAFTAs (Nominees to be announced on 12th January 2010) and, who knows, the Oscars!
