Introduction to Gems in Jewellery
Lauren Adriana
This course is ideal for anyone with an interest in fine jewellery design or looking to incorporate gemstones into their own work. This course takes the form of a lecture series. You will be introduced to the many uses of gemstones and gem materials in jewellery design. The course will cover a wide range of gem materials, including all those stones commonly used in jewellery today, alongside more unusual materials and pearls. The artistic merits of using gemstones will be looked at along with all technical and financial issues. The aim of the course is to encourage jewellers to experiment with gemstones and to build up their confidence in both handling and buying them. Examples of the gemstones discussed will be available for the students to examine.
With a diploma in Gemmology and a degree in Jewellery Design from Central Saint Martins, Lauren Adriana is fast becoming a name to watch in the jewellery industry. Shortlisted for Best Young Jewellery Designer at this year's UK Jewellery Awards, her pieces have been worn by the likes of Natalia Vodianova. Recognised by both the British and international press for her distinguished and supremely elegant style her work has been featured in the Financial Times How to Spend It, InStyle and American Vogue.
