Natural Materials in Jewellery

Natural Materials in Jewellery

Anastasia Young MA (RCA)

Explore the use of natural materials - wood, bone, horn, shell - through a series of projects that will open up a range of possibilities for added colour, texture and contrast within your jewellery. Useful advice on sourcing materials, as well as safe working practises will be covered during the course. Basic techniques for working with natural materials will be covered - cutting, drilling, filing, riveting and polishing - as well as more specialist techniques such as carving, etching, embossing and bezel-setting. You can expect to complete a range of pieces, using handmade silver fittings and findings with the natural materials to produce well-crafted and wearable jewellery. This course is suitable for beginners and all materials are provided.

Anastasia Young is a practising jewellery designer and artist, and author of 'The Jewellery Materials Sourcebook' (A & C Black) and 'The Workbench Guide to Jewelry Techniques' (Thames & Hudson). She is a graduate of the Royal College of Art and Central Saint Martins, where she lectures on the BA Jewellery course.
