Event Design

Merle Hensel, Sue Mayes

This course caters for creative practitioners who are looking to diversify their career options; it will provide an insight into the world of event design, and will teach you how to apply your existing skills to this existing area of design. Through project based work (both group and individual), you will learn how to analyse site-specific spaces and develop your own conceptual ideas. Emphasis will also be put on combining imagination, practicality and improvisational skills in order to pitch your ideas to clients.

Merle Hensel trained as a theatre designer at Central St Martins School of Art and Design and the Slade School of Fine Art in London. She works internationally as a theatre, event and film designer.

Sue Mayes trained at Central Saint Martins since when she has had a wide ranging career working as a freelance set and costume designer in the Theatre, as well as being a partner in the Event Design company, Visualfeast. She has also taught extensively in many of the major drama schools.
