Jewellery today, in its use of different materials and of different types of plastic used in conjunction with metal, can open up new ways of designing and wearing jewellery. In this course you will learn to work with resin and other plastics in combination with metal.

You will learn to carve an original design from jewellery wax, from which a silicone mould is made. This techniques allows you to create your own designs and make an original mould. The mould will be used to cast several of the same pieces in resin in a range of a beautiful opaque and transparent colours.

You will learn basic metal working techniques such as cutting, filing, soldering and finishing to make a silver pendant to combine with resin.

There will be plenty of time to experiment with embedding objects into the resin and cast resin in pre-made moulds.  Some of the projects that you will make include, a ring, pendant and earrings
Design, as well as technical support will be given to help you realise your ideas. Base metals such as copper and several types of plastics will be provided. Guidance will be given as to how you can source a range of unconventional materials.

Anastasia Young is a practising jewellery designer and artist, and author of 'The Jewellery Materials Sourcebook' (A & C Black) and 'The Workbench Guide to Jewellery Techniques' (Thames & Hudson). She is a graduate of the Royal College of Art and Central Saint Martins, where she lectures on the BA Jewellery course.
