Interior Styling
Tara Larkin
A stylist is the person that chooses accessories, finds a location or designs a set to put together for a photographic shoot. Interiors styling might be for advertising or for editorial. A stylist needs to understand the requirements of the client before arriving at a solution, and in order to understand the job of styling we will examine the differences between advertising and editorial more closely. We will look at the different areas of advertising and advertorial promotions and the influence that PR plays in all this. Through looking at a variety of editorial features we will discover how a particular magazine targets its readers. We will look at how magazines describe colour trends, style trends and how they forecast future trends. Finally, we will consider the job of a stylist and the amount of creative freedom a stylist has in a variety of situations. Students will create colour boards, trend boards and lifestyle boards, and come up with ideas and solutions to a variety of styling projects.
Tara Larkin is an experienced freelance Interiors Stylist who has worked for a variety of magazines, newspapers, interiors companies and television. View her client list and examples of her work on www.interiorstylist.com
