Creating a Character
Alexander Wolpert, Bradley Taylor
The course will focus on character development. It will explore movement, voice and most importantly inner physicality. The aim of the course is to equip the actor with quick and decisive tools with which to search for and realise a character in order to prepare effectively for auditions, and fully inhabit a role. The course will involve a specific movement class every session in order to find the character tempo. Everyday objects and gestures will also be explored in character with the aim of finding possible scenarios to place the character in. There will be an informal presentation at the end of the five days in which the actors will display the characters and scenarios that they have been developing. The course will focus on the observation of the human condition and how to look at things without judgment but through repetition and play in order that any facet of human life can be replicated and most importantly dramatised.
Alexander Wolpert trained at Drama Centre and has worked with Complicite and Globe Education, and has since set up a theatre company which recently workshopped a new adaptation of Shakespeare's King John at the Jerwood Space. He is currently appearing in the feature film 'Bigga than Ben'. Bradley Taylor trained at Drama Centre London and graduated in 2006. Since then he has been involved in many projects from feature films to the Royal National theatre. Bradley has also directed his own work at festivals and regional theatres around England. He is currently developing a sit-com for television and re-working a new production of Rosencranz and Guilderstern are dead by Tom Stopppard.
