Theatre Design for 16 - 18 Year Olds

Gary Thorne MA

This course will look at the process of costume and set design, resulting in finished drawings and a sketch model of the set. You will learn the research techniques necessary to design a suitable setting by analysing the play's text and characters. You will also be introduced to stage dynamics for the actor and for scenery for various theatre types. Designs will investigate value for money through innovation and invention. By the end of the course, students will have produced individual project books and models. This course is suitable for beginners and those preparing portfolios for further study. Students from a wide range of disciplines are welcome.

Gary Thorne studied fine art at Byam Shaw, theatre design with Motley and completed an MA in Public Art with UEL. He has worked as freelance set and costume designer for over twenty years.
