Acting Workshops for 16 - 18 Year Olds
Jon Lee
This is a course for any young students who want to go on to study acting. Reflecting the Drama Centre ethos, it will introduce you to the basic principles involved in the Method approach to acting. There will be sessions focusing on both Russian and American developments of the Method. Material will be drawn from renowned English and American dramatic texts from Shakespeare to Miller, Odets and Osborne. At the end of the week you will present a series of rehearsed scenes in which they will use some of the techniques learned. During the course students will have an introduction to: improvisation based on a storytelling process without text, designed to expand creative imaginative resources, techniques to assist in identifying and releasing impulse, the basic Method 'questions' through textual analysis, movement and voice.
Jon Lee's directing credits include: Bacchaefull, a contemporary adaptation of Euripides' The Bacchae and Time Out's Fringe Show of the Year; Aeschylus' Persians for Thiasos, performed in Cyprus as part of the International Festival of Ancient Greek Drama; Open Ground & Other Rooms, two new plays performed at Theatro Technis; and Krapp's Last Tapes by Beckett and Galileo by Brecht at Brentwood Theatre. Jon was a member of academic staff at Drama Centre London and is a co-founder of the contemporary performance group, Dirty Market Theatre.
