Breaking in to Commercial Photography

From making agency appointments to building a portfolio and working with stylists, this course aims to equip you with the skills to get work – and what to do when you get it.
 
Led by two industry insiders, with talks from industry specialists, you will be lead through four modules to enable you to become a more successful commercial photographer:

  • Your Work – portfolio and website reviews, how to how to define your technique / style. This will include a talk aby a Photographic agent.
  • Getting Work – assisting, how commissioning works, introduction to agents, galleries and an overview of stock photography. The speaker on this module will be an art buyer.
  • Quoting Work – usage fees, buyouts etc. print sales, negotiation skills
  • Teamwork -  the lowdown on those who work with photographers at all stages, from stylists to retouchers. A producer will share their insights.

Jasper White is a successful photographer whose work explores the relationship people have with territory and space. Over the last ten years he has worked at the high end of advertising, and has been commissioned for worldwide campaigns representing many international companies including Virgin & HSBC. His work has featured in Creative Review, the American Photography Awards, the AOP Awards, the Sony World Photography Awards and the Observer Hodge Photographic Award.

Tom Hind has worked as European Head of Content for Getty Images for the last 5 years, a role which involves managing the Creative Department in creating, editing and sourcing imagery for Getty’s collections. Before that he spent seven years as Art Buyer, then Head of Art Buying for WWAV Rapp Collins, Europe’s Largest Marketing Agency. He studied photography at the University of Kent and the Sorbonne Nouvelle, Paris.
