This hands-on course will give you a detailed introduction to the picture industry; the work of picture researchers and editors, archivists, image collections and agencies and image publishing in general. It will enable you to seek work in the many thousands of picture related jobs nationwide. The growing production, management and publication of images requires a constant influx of additional professionals. If you are an artist, a photographer, a publisher, an image-maker, a writer, a PR professional, a designer or simply someone looking to explore your visual/creative side, this fascinating course will benefit you. Some knowledge of conventional and digital photography is an advantage but fast learners with no photography background are welcome. Topics include:

  • Introduction to the picture industry, markets and career opportunities
  • Comprehensive training on interpreting a picture brief and compiling a publication project
  • Practical use of the main professional picture libraries and agencies online and on-site
  • Use of Photoshop on Mac platform to edit, retouch and manage digital images
  • Guidance on intellectual property, copyright law and rights clearance
  • A guided visit to the vast archives of the world's leading image provider Getty Image

Ali Khoja, working as a freelance picture editor/researcher, has put together over 30 illustrated book titles for Getty Images, National Geographic, London's Science Museum, Barnes & Noble and WH Smith to name a few. Titles have ranged from coffee table books to reference books to gift books to encyclopedias and include the Decades series of books which have sold in their millions worldwide. He has extensive knowledge of the world's foremost picture archives and agencies among them Time & Life, Bridgeman Art Library, Magnum, Reuters, Associated Press and Corbis. He has published over 10,000 images over a fifteen year career.
