Getting Your Book Published

Gordon Kerr

So, you've finished writing the book that you hope will make you rich and famous. What next? How do you make the leap from a file on your computer screen to the shelves of your local bookshop? This course will guide you through the dynamic and complex world of publishing and bookselling, from the mysteries of the ISBN to book wholesaling and from the vital editorial process to the dark arts of marketing and publicity, encompassing the very latest developments, including e-books and new and innovative ways to reach your market. Workshops and weekly assignments will prepare the prospective author for all that the book world can throw at him or her.

Gordon Kerr has a degree in English Literature from Glasgow University and became a leading marketer in the wine trade before working in bookselling and publishing for Waterstone's and Bloomsbury, respectively. For a number of years he ran his own marketing consultancy with publishing clients including Chambers Harrap, Bloomsbury, Faber & Faber and Harcourt, as well as companies from other industries. He is now a full-time writer, author of more than thirty-five books in a variety of non-fiction genres, including history, art, biography, travel, poetry, humour and crime.
