Creative Process and Self-Expression

Creative Process and Self-Expression

Mary Caddick MA, DipAT

The aim of this course is to offer a place and also time to explore and re-charge individual creative processes and to support self-expression
whether you are a working artist/designer or a beginner. Many factors may inhibit our lives and creativity; the working environment, our education, personal experiences and the like. This course aims to reduce such inhibitions whilst engaging in serious play. This course facilitates rather than teaches and, as such, values and encourages learning from each other.

There will be a series of guided exercises using a variety of supplied art materials. Regular group discussions offer the reflective process through which ideas are shared and developed. A supportive, non-judgemental and playful atmosphere develops. Participants do need to be committed and to attend regularly. The focus of the course is not about making 'Art' nor about assessing work and it does not aim to teach technique or theory although all of these may be discussed. The emphasis is on creative activity, authentic expression and on the value and enjoyment of creativity and the insight it can bring. This course can open up new possibilities and directions. The course is suitable for anyone wishing to engage with their creative process and is enriched by a mixed group. All course materials are provided and please dress for mess. Good conversational English skills are required.

Mary Caddick is a maker, tutor/facilitator and art therapist.
