Design Summer School for 13-15 Year Olds
Session 1 and Session 2: Alistair Steele and others
To meet the needs of our younger audience Central Saint Martins has created a range of short, residential courses, held in Buckinghamshire, England. Using the talents of our Foundation course tutors the courses are all three weeks long and involve practical designing and making.
The aim is to give you an experience of art school and help you to build skills and develop new work for your portfolio. Being able to work to a brief, solve problems and explain your ideas to others are essential skills for a professional designer. This course takes three elements of design (graphics, product and spatial) and allows you to work through projects as if in a real studio. Deadlines will be set and you will be expected to pitch your ideas and accept feedback from peers. Expect to work hard and fast, make mistakes and work in teams on some industry-inspired projects.
Subjects will include:
- Understanding and Working to a Project Brief
- Graphic Design, Illustration and Image Making
- Packaging Design
- Typography and Advertising
- Product Development and Presentation Skills
- Spatial and Interior Design and Model Making
On completing the course you will have a portfolio of work, a sketchbook full of ideas and the experience of studying graphics, product and spatial design at college-level. Students with great ideas and team-building abilities are welcome.
This promises to be an exciting and unique experience for any 13-15 year-old who is:
- Interested in developing their own creativity
- Building a portfolio for future studies
- Confident in learning from their mistakes
- Keen to work with students of different nationalities
- Willing to work and collaborate with others during projects
- Wishing to develop their skills in communicating ideas
