Drawing and Illustrating Sporting Events
Howard Read
This course will help you create your own unique drawn record of the London Olympics. Drawing will take place in the studio and on location capturing the vibrancy and diversity of this sporting event from archery to athletics the course will help you develop drawing skills , capturing movement, people and atmosphere.
We will explore drawing media and how to work and use sketches to build up more complex and finished drawings . tips on techniques and working in colour from photographic research - capturing the sporting moment - will be developed back in the studio.
Many events will be held in central London we will also work at the Olympic park - the course will not cover the ticketed events.
This is open to all levels who want to improve there drawing skills and learn new methods and techniques record sporting events on location and in the studio.
Howard Read is a freelance illustrator and a graduate of the Royal College of Art. He teaches on the BA Graphic Design course at Central Saint Martins.

Please bring with you to the first session:
- A small amount of money for travel pass to locations.
- A Sketch/note book (comfortable size for working on location)
- Basic drawing equipment:
- Pencils (selection)
- Cartridge paper (A3 pad)
- Other equipment useful (not essential!) throughout the course:
- Inks/Watercolour
- Scalpel
- Pritt
- Camera
