Graphic Design for Beginners
David Preston, Emily Wood, Ken Kirton
By breaking down the preconceptions of graphic design, this course encourages the development of ideas as well as an understanding of layout and typography. Starting with a number of short observation projects and continuing with a selection of diverse yet interlinking projects, the course will include observational drawing processes, constructive group crits and classroom activities with the enthusiasm of the BA degree course at Central Saint Martins throughout. This course encourages those who are willing to experiment and produce an inventive portfolio, whether for an application to an HND or BA course, or just to refresh themselves and have an enquiring mind. Please note that this is a computer-free zone.
David Preston is a graphic designer and typographer working in print and online. After graduating from Central Saint Martins David gained experience with a range of high profile companies including the BBC, Kerr Noble, Studio Small and Praline. He now runs his own studio and is a visiting lecturer on the BA Graphic Design course at Central Saint Martins.
Emily Wood is one of the co-founders of the REG design studio and graduate and Associate Lecturers on the BA (Hons) Graphic Design course at Central Saint Martins.
Ken Kirton specialises in typography, identities, publications and workshops. As well as this he runs the printing and publishing house Hato Press.
