Graphic Design for 16 - 18 Year Olds

Graphic Design for 16 - 18 Year Olds

Hannah Ball, Chris Ratcliffe

This is a practical, intensive course suitable for enthusiastic and open-minded students with a keen interest in graphic design. This project-based course will enable you to develop and improve the basic design skills required by graphic designers. Creativity and ideas are really important and you will be encouraged to explore and broaden your approach to, and understanding of, graphic design as a subject. During the week you will be required to show high levels of commitment in the production of extensive amounts of work. Work produced during this course may form part of a portfolio for application to graphic design courses at foundation or degree levels. In response to set design briefs, through the production of original, exciting and innovative work, you will cover the following areas: development of visual research, concept generation, concept development and presentation of final design solutions. You will not be using computers on this course.

Hannah Ball and Chris Ratcliffe have worked together for several years as tutors in Graphic Communication Design on the Foundation Course at Central Saint Martins.

They are founder members of creative collective Garudio Studiage and their work spans the disciplines of graphic design, fine art, fashion promotion, accessories and product design.   They create products, events and artworks for clients including the V&A, Red Bull UK, Wieden+Kennedy, Graham Norton, Nike, Levis, Comic Relief and Paul Smith.

Hannah graduated from the Royal College of Art and works with visual communication, ideas and objects, whilst Chris studied at the University of Brighton and Camberwell College of Arts and has a specialist knowledge of screen printing and print production. Chris also teaches regularly on BA courses at UCA at Epsom.
