Print Production for Beginners
Paul Harding
Do you know what happens to your project once you have approved it for printing? Does the technical jargon leave you feeling your print project is out of control?
The course caters for beginners and those with some previous experience. It is suitable for anyone who works, or is about to work in an environment where they are involved in the production of printed materials. From art books, company or product brochures to company reports and accounts, POS and posters.
Whether you are a Graphic Design student about to embark on your career, a project manager in design agency, a corporate communications professional charged with overseeing the production of your company's literature, a marketing specialist or a PR professional who offers printed communication as part of an overall strategy for your clients this is the course for you.
The course is devised to help you identify the key milestones within a project, the questions to ask, and the best papers for the project and the most appropriate binding for the work. One of the highlights of the course involves an afternoon (week 4 - 13th May, 12:00 to 18:00) at a printing company to see how things really work and to help you apply the theory to the reality. The final session asks you to apply what you have learnt by putting together print specifications for a printed item.
It is a truly practical course, based on commercial printing in a 'real life' environment and will help 'demystify' the process of buying and producing print, giving you more confidence in dealing with your printers. The course has been running since 2006 and previous students have found it to be both interesting and invaluable.
