After Effects for Televison

Bill Wilson

This course focuses on the use of After Effects and Photoshop as tools for production and design of moving image for TV. The course will focus on using the software to solve design problems and will highlight pitfalls of working with this media. Areas such as video fields, production safe area (16:9, 14:9, 4:3 and high def), pixel ratio, codecs, video frame rates and broadcast colours will be covered. You will be encouraged to work on set projects or to create your own using typography and moving graphics created directly in After Effects or treating imported footage. Some footage will be supplied but you can bring in your own stills or DV footage to work with. A basic knowledge of After Effects and Photoshop is desirable.

Bill Wilson graduated from St Martins and has worked in broadcast design for 10 years (BBC and ITV) before starting Atom Pictures, where he is Creative Director.
