Illustration Workshop
Bill Wright
By blurring the distinction between illustration and graphic design and allowing type and layout to play an important role, this course will take a broader view of illustration and capture the spirit and enthusiasm of the BA degree course at Central Saint Martins. While there will be the opportunity for some classic illustration/design, you will be encouraged to innovate in your ways of image-making and communication. The course will emphasise experimentation, the generation of ideas and an awareness of your surroundings. Students will be expected to do a certain amount of work at home as well as practical classroom activities. The work from this course could be used as part of a portfolio for application to a degree course or professional practice. Professional practice itself will also be discussed.
Bill Wright is a practicing artist and has taught drawing and design in the US and UK. He currently teaches on the illustration pathway of BA (Hons) Graphic Design at Central Saint Martins.

- Pencils - medium and soft
- A drawing pen - one you like or you might get one like a Staedtler pigment liner
- A4 Pad - Cartridge paper or other
Other equipment useful (not essential!) throughout the course:
- Inks, paints, brushes you like to use
- A selection of papers useful for collage (colour texture etc.)
- Scalpel
- Glue-stick
- Camera or phone-camera.
There will be lots of art materials available in the studio, too. You may want to experiment with these and then buy some of your own, choosing those you like working with.
