Children's Book Illustration
April Wilson BA
In creating children's picture books an understanding of the relationship between image and text is vital to success. This course will appeal to people with a professional or general art background who enjoy picture making and have an interest in story telling. It will involve the creation of images for different types of books by exploring a variety of techniques as well as composition. It is important to feel comfortable with drawing, as this is our chief means of communicating when we use story boards. The approach will emphasise sequence, pace, continuity, design, layout and the actual working of a book - its spirit and identity. From simple book concepts to working with original classic or contemporary texts, the course will encourage students to develop their own individuality and imagination. Through student led work, paired projects and class workshops, the aim is to increase both experimentation and professionalism.
April Wilson is an artist and illustrator who has written and illustrated many children's books. To find out more about April's work please visit her website www.april-wilson.com
