Bookbinding for Artists
Alex Czinczel
This beginners course will teach you how to make a book, with special emphasis on non-adhesive binding techniques. You will explore different styles of bookbinding, using paperfolding and various sewing techniques, and you will learn how to make boxes from greyboard and bookcloth which can be used to protect your books or collections of loose sheets. After building up your skills making different blank notebooks or sketchbooks you will have an opportunity to make your own artist's book using, for example, drawing, printmaking, photography, digital art or embroidery.
Alex Czinczel is the Bookbinding Artist in Residence at Central Saint Martins.
