Watercolour Painting 2 - Abstraction

Watercolour Painting 2 - Abstraction

Roger Gill BA (Hons)

If you can tear yourself away from your prefered medium, are in a quandry about the direction of your work, or simply want to start making abstract works, then join this course to let go!! Abstract watercolour paintings that have broken free from the stranglehold of representation are a joy to see and allow the emergence of visual sensations not necessarily perceived with figurative work. The course is about how to break free, to create your own works using the watercolour medium, which is perfect for making wonderfully fluid, abstract works. Through a series of carefully conceived exercises and creative accidents involving colour, textures, collage and stencils, we will see how the medium can be manipulated to create works, from a variety of sources, that have a balance of shape, colour, form, and light. The sources would take the form of photographs or pictures, supplied by you, of situations, textures or whatever you feel would be appropriate to kick start your work. The works produced during the course could be seen as independent pieces or as working links between mediums such as oils or acrylics. This is an ideal follow-on course from the Beginner's class, but can also be taken independently.

Roger Gill is an artist and freelance tutor who works in London and who has exhibited in the UK and Europe. See www.rogergill.org.
