Total Drawing

Total Drawing

Ilga Leimanis, Trevor Flynn

Total Drawing will help you develop core skills that have a wide range of creative applications. The course offers a thorough introduction to a variety of drawing materials including charcoal, conte crayon, ink wash, graphite stick and mixed media. At the beginning of the course we will work through simple, short exercises that provide new ways of looking at individual objects, still life and the model. To strengthen the abstract qualities in your work and help overcome literal-mindedness, time will be given to analysing form in space, studying light and shade and considering composition and pictorial design. In the second half of the course you will be introduced to simple techniques and experimental processes to enable you to develop a more personal or meaningful interpretation of your subject matter. The course is for mixed ability students, and it is taught using sound educational methods and sensitive personal tutoring. You will leave with a portfolio of drawings in several media, and a clear glimpse of what makes drawing such a uniquely satisfying activity.

Course 1 will be taught by Trevor Flynn. Trevor teaches at the Architectural Association. He is an artist and has produced a set of films for Architects Journal about freehand drawing. Trevor illustrated the screenplay for Richard Curtis's film Notting Hill and The Sugar Club Cookbook

Course 2 will be taught by Ilga Leimanis MA.  Ilga is a London-based artist who exhibits internationally. She has taught workshops on freehand sketching, townscape sketching and life drawing at the Bartlett School of Planning and contemporary architectural and engineering practices, including Adams Kara Taylor, Foster + Partners, Kohn Pedersen Fox and Make. See Ilga's websites www.ilgaleimanis.com and www.orteliusdrew.com
