Drawing London on Location
Sion Ap Tomos MA (RCA)
One of the most engaging ways of investigating London's many interesting and unique places is by foot with sketchbook in hand. Drawing is a most effective way of exploring different environments, observing and recording the nature of a place, its detail, content and atmosphere. The aim of this course is to help those who want to draw from life but are not sure what subject to begin with, or simply lack the confidence to make the experience truly satisfying. It is also suitable for more experienced drawers keen to improve their observational skills and create new work. Above all, the course is designed to encourage and improve the use of the sketchbook as a means of studying, documenting and simply reacting to the things that we see, with London being the subject. Bring strong shoes and a keen eye and the enthusiasm to sketch and explore this exciting city.
Sion Ap Tomos MA (RCA) is a practicing illustrator and artist. A graduate of CSM and The Royal College of Art he has been teaching drawing and illustration at a variety of institutions for over 10 years.
Alternative Dates and Times
Many of our courses are repeated throughout the year. If the above dates is not suitable for you,
or there are no dates showing for this session, then please choose an alternative session.
Please bring with you to the first session:
- at least two sketchbooks, one small one which can be used comfortably whilst standing and a larger one (roughly up to A3 size) for longer more ambitious drawings. It could be a simple soft cover notebook, a reporter's notepad a collection of loose papers of different kinds or a moleskin for example, as well as a more traditional hardbound sketchbook, whatever you are currently familiar and comfortable with. By all means bring a sketchbook that you have already been working in. The same applies with drawing materials, whatever you are familiar and comfortable with though by all means bring materials that you haven't used before but are eager to try out. Other materials for you to use will be discussed as the course progresses.
