Introduction to the History of Art - Part 3
Deirdre Daly
This course will equip you with a foundation from which to consider some of the key issues in contemporary art practice. While familiarising you with the theoretical debates associated with different strands of work, we will discuss how prevailing conditions and philosophical ideas may have affected the production and expectations of art. You will encounter a wide spectrum of artists, from important 20th century figures to emerging contemporary practitioners from London's dynamic art scene. The course will be structured around lectures, seminar discussions and screenings, along with museum and gallery visits.
Deirdre Daly is an experienced HE and FE lecturer who specialises in the history of ideas. She completed her PhD in the Department of Historical and Visual Culture in Goldsmiths College, University of London. Her research interests include the history of philosophy, auto/biography and political philosophy. She is currently preparing research on Derrida and Pascal.
