Anatomical Drawing - Intermediate
Stuart Elliot
Historically, anatomical knowledge of the human figure has been a key element in the traditional techniques used in European painting and drawing, not to mention an essential skill used by animators and illustrators working today. Using simple forms to break down complex information, we will study the relationship between the skeleton and the major muscle groups, and ways of applying such knowledge to create convincing, expressive figure drawings. Working from the live model, prepared drawings and examples, the course will help develop the skills and confidence needed to tackle a range of drawing problems, including handling volume, tone and structure as well as drawing from memory. Students can develop at their own pace as we explore how an awareness of anatomical structure can help to inform and enliven your drawings of the figure. This course is suitable for all levels and is aimed at anyone who wishes to improve their drawing. It is also very relevant to artists and those working in animation & character design, fashion, illustration - or students wishing to enter these fields.
Stuart Elliot is a practising painter, working and exhibiting internationally and is also a lecturer in Art History and Theory on the BA Fine Art course at Central St Martins.
