Drawing Portfolio 2
Chris Koning
This course follows on from Drawing Portfolio 1, although it can be taken on its own if you have some previous drawing experience.
The act of drawing is a fundamental means to analyse the world around us. This intensive, skills-based course will continue to expand on your drawing portfolio and build on skills gained in Drawing Portfolio 1. Looking at drawing within a variety of different contexts including fine art, illustration, architecture and even doodling, we will explore a range of materials and techniques as well as looking at the history of drawing and contemporary artists' work. We will work from life models, take field trips and draw on site. You will also look more openly at how the process of drawing can help inform the rest of our work and play, and how our definition of what drawing is can be expanded.
'The value of creativity and innovation is well documented, and drawing is clearly identified in a range of professions as the key creative means to generate ideas, locate understanding, develop innovation and communicate ideas and knowledge. The need for greater drawing skills in those entering employment has been identified by a range of industries in the creative sector including; animation, film, architecture, art practice, design and communication industries. Drawing is also used within a range of other professions who can benefit from the development of creative language skills and visual literacy…including sport, mathematics, cartography, anthropology, music and performance.' -Anita Taylor - Director of the National Art School in Sydney, Founding Director of the Jerwood Drawing Prize and former Chair of 'The Centre for Drawing' at University of the Arts London
