Art and Design Workshops for 16 - 18 Year Olds

Art and Design Workshops for 16 - 18 Year Olds

David Roft, Gail Evans

This exciting course is ideal for young people who have recently completed a GCSE in art and design and for those who are studying art and design at A-Level. The course has been devised to help students strengthen their portfolios and develop their work sequentially. The course combines observational drawing, research and personal project work. Research usually requires some work outside college in a museum, gallery or on location. This helps participants grow in confidence as they claim greater control and responsibility for the direction that their work takes. Experimentation and origination of ideas are complemented by a sound grounding in the art and design basics. There will be many opportunities to work across a full range of materials in both two and three dimensions. Students should expect to find the focused atmosphere of the working studio an inspiration and derive great excitement from the work that they produce. Some students also use this experience of art school to help decide on future study choices.

David Roft is an Associate Lecturer on the Foundation Studies course at Central Saint Martins and the Foundation Degree in Fine Art at Byam Shaw School of Art.

Gail Evans is a designer and fine artist who teaches on the Foundation Course at Central Saint Martins.
