Textile Effects for Costume
Arantza Vilas
Taught by a professional specialising in distressing techniques, this course is aimed at fashion designers, costume and set designers and anyone interested in experimenting with worn out effects on fabrics. From a given brief and attending to the individual needs, the students will be producing a collection of textile samples. The course will be workshop based and will encourage students to explore and experiment with techniques such as devore and discharge. Students will also find their own ways of manipulating natural and synthetic fabrics in order to obtain aged and theatrical effects.
Arantza Vilas graduated from MA Design for Textile Futures at Central Saint Martins and currently combines her own practice with teaching. Her practice ranges from the design and production of specialist textiles for costumes for film and interiors ('The Phantom of the Opera' by Joel Schumaher among others) to creative consultancy and art-based projects.
