Summer Study Abroad - Textile Design
Margaret Campbell MA, Arantza Vilas
This 3 week course will take students from 2D design to 3D construction of textiles for fashion. Studio and workshop sessions will be complemented by visits to places of interest, such as galleries and textile retailers.
Week 1 will concentrate on building design and research skills, and understanding the role of the fashion/textile designer. Attention will be paid to developing your research with shop, museum and studio visits. You will be drawing and mark making towards creating your substantial portfolio of designs.
Week 2 will be based in the workshop creating handmade textiles using techniques such as hand painting, printing dyeing.
Week 3 will take the design work from Week 1 and the technical skills learned in Week 2 to create a sample collection of fashion textiles. Skills such as pleating, embossing folding and amination to add to a final collection.

Margaret Campbell studied fashion print at BA and MA level at Central Saint Martins. She now teaches on these courses and works for UAL in textiles alongside her own work she collaborates with new and established designers in Print / Fashion and Product design.
Arantza Vilas graduated from MA Design for Textile Futures at Central Saint Martins and currently combines her own practice with teaching. Her practice ranges from the design and production of specialist textiles for costumes for film and interiors ('The Phantom of the Opera' by Joel Schumaher among others) to creative consultancy and art-based projects.
