Traditional Tailoring for Beginners

This course combines traditional tailoring with modern manufacturing techniques. You will be shown different ways to put in sleeve rolls, pockets, canvas, shoulder pads and inter-lining, and how to produce high quality jackets within a fraction of the time that it would take with conventional tailoring. You will experiment with modern fabrics and haberdashery giving you all the necessary skills to make a fully lined jacket at production level.

Chandrakala Doshi has been working in the trade for 35 years, of which the last 8 years have been in the teaching industry. She has worked with colleges such as the Royal College of Art and Central Saint Martins at both BA and MA level. Usha Doshi has been working in the trade for 35 years, 20 of which she has worked at the Royal College of Art as a senior technician in womens wear at MA level. Alongside her full time position, Usha has also run various tailoring classes from couture to modern tailoring. Usha has worked with many well-known designers such as Christopher Bailey, Betty Jackson, Julien MacDonald, Philip Treacy and others.
