Accessories for Beginners

Accessories for Beginners

Maureen Campbell

Do you have a creative eye and wish to learn basic skills in accessory design and  making? Do you wish to create your own collection but feel the need for guidance?  During this course you will develop studio-based design, research and portfolio building skills whilst learning basic accessory construction. There will be an emphasis on recycled materials and fastenings, using textile stores, second-hand shops and markets throughout London. This course will be low-tech, so no previous sewing or pattern cutting skills are required. So long as you have lots of ideas, are interested in researching fabrics and can hand sew and embellish, then this class will be suitable. By the end of the course you will leave with at least one finished piece (for example one bag or one belt) for a capsule collection, plus a sketchbook of ideas which will be a valuable addition to your portfolio.

Maureen Campbell has worked for organisations such as Dexter Wong - On 'Peoples Market' & 'Laura Lees Label', Future Classics (showing at London Fashion week), Maikee Mekking and PPQ.  She was Senior Designer for Leatherwear company for three and a half years - working with labels like Preen, Ted Baker , Paul Costelloe, Topshop, Oasis, Mint Velvet to name a few, eather Garments and accessories. She has worked for Design Label 'Graeme Armour' ; they show at NY fashion week. Maureen has been working on the Accessories for Beginners course since March 2006 and also teaches pattern making and construction at University of Hertfordshire - on their full time Fashion course.
