Textile Art for 16 to 18 year olds

Textile Art for 16 to 18 year olds

Clare Sams

Do you want to gain new skills for producing exciting textile art? On this course you will explore different textile methods with an emphasis on utilising textiles for art or adornment. It is ideal for those who have studied Art and Design, and are looking to develop their work using textiles. You will visit exhibitions to gain an insight into textile art forms and processes, and make technical notes and sketches to draw inspiration from. Each day will focus on a different technique, including hand weave, knit and embroidery. There will be practical demonstrations, then you will design and make finished pieces in each textile method. Your work can take the form of sculptures, wall hangings or jewellery. The outcome of the course will be a vibrant array of design work and textile samples, plus the ability to work with yarn in new and exciting ways.

Textile artist Clare Sams produces hand and machine knitted narratives. She works as an artist educator teaching textile techniques, and is a stitch technican at Central saint Martins. www.claresams.co.uk
