Introduction to Fashion Journalism (Thursdays)

Hywel Davies

Do you want to know how to report from the catwalk shows, co-ordinate a fashion shoot and write fashion news? Do you dream of working on a fashion magazine? If you are interested in learning more about fashion journalism, this course in fashion journalism is for you. Students will find out how to write news and features and will learn how to do face-to-face interviews. It is aimed at those looking for an insider's view into the profession. As well as focusing on the essential core skills, the course also covers building contacts, how to get a job in fashion and the structure of a fashion team on a magazine. Journalists in the industry increasingly have to commission fashion shoots if not style themselves, so an introduction on how to choose pictures and basic styling is also included. This course will suit anyone with basic writing ability, a good grasp of the English language and a visual eye, looking to focus on fashion.

Hywel Davies is a fashion journalists who gained his degree at Central Saint Martins and works on the trade and consumer press.
