Millinery Workshop

Millinery Workshop

Ian Bennett MA (RCA)

Whether you are interested in designing and making hats for pleasure or thinking of embarking on a more commercial venture with your work, this course for beginners is an ideal place to start. This is a comprehensive course introducing the fundamentals of hat making from creating flat pattern, machined fabric hats to blocking and trimming felts and straws. The course is flexible so that experience, ability and taste are taken into consideration. Depending on the scale of the projects you undertake during the week, you should expect to leave with two or three completed pieces. Some materials will be provided, although you will be asked to source more during the week.

Ian Bennett is a milliner who produces hats for individual clients, the catwalk and TV productions.

Alternative Dates and Times

As a guide you will need to buy:

  • Pins
  • Thimble
  • Apron
  • Clingfilm
  • Needle and Threads (in colours complementary to your felts)
See www.baxterhart.co.uk for examples of the type of felts you can buy.
