Computers for Fashion
Riz Smith
The computer is a powerful tool for fashion illustration and presentation. This course is for designers and teachers of design who would like to explore its creative potential. We will use the powerful and versatile program Adobe Photoshop in conjunction with other software. Those completely new to designing on the computer will be welcome, although it is advisable that you have some computer experience before you enrol. The course will be taught on the PC and will cover painting and drawing on screen, precise garment sketching, creating patterns and textures, scanning images and fabric samples collage. You will also explore photomontage and image manipulation, presentation of fashion stories with images and text and the use of digital cameras and printers.
Riz Smith is a British menswear designer, based in London. Commercially Riz has seen a successful career spanning from bags and accessories through to beachwear and casual wear. Experienced in evolving ideas from concept and managing the design process through to final production. Most importantly creating trend boards, commercial colour palettes, working to critical paths, creating technical drawings for factories and working with sales and marketing departments.

Please bring with you to the first session:
- Some visual material for reference and development ie. sketchbook with your own work or images which interest or inspire you. These could be drawings, designs, paintings or photographs (either digital or printed).
- Please also bring a notebook and pen and a USB stick or discs for storing work.
