Technical Drawing for Fashion
Judith Stong BA (Hons)
Technical drawing and garment flats are essential skills for both professionals working in the field and students completing portfolios. This course will cover the basics of technical drawing for garments, including proportion, shape and construction, and how to develop a personal style of drawing. The course will include working from a model, experimenting with movement, drawing volume and different weights of fabric, and the representation of finishings, prints and garment detail. Students will work on a short design project throughout the course, which they will be able to put into their portfolio. The project will include basic research and design skills, with illustrations and technical drawings put together with different presentation techniques.
Judith is a graduate (Hons) of Fashion Design at Newcastle University and works as a freelance menswear and womenswear designer and fashion lecturer. She is a regular tutor at Central Saint Martins.
