Machine Knitting - Accessories
Alice Wellbeloved
This course, which can be taken independently of Part 1, is a fashion knit accessories course which is aimed at anyone with a basic knowledge of machine knitting. You will learn how to make socks, gloves and hats and also more unusual fashion accessories such as brooches, adornments and other body pieces. Emphasis is placed upon being creative with the idea of 'the accessory', and being experimental and exploring your ideas and materials. Technical studies in machine knitting will be coupled with creativity and having fun.
Alice Wellbeloved gained a BA in Textile Design and an MA in Fashion Knitwear from Central Saint Martins. After graduating she worked in Paris as head knitwear designer for Martine Sitbon, Christian Lacroix and Sonia Rykiel. She is currently head of knitwear at Aquascutum in London.

Please bring with you to the first session:
- tape measure
- scissors
- calculator
- notepad / pencil
- a selection of yarns of different weights and gauges.
You do not need to bring in large amounts but should bring a good selection that you are inspired by. There will be a limited supply of basic wools and cottons provided.
ribbons, lace, net, fabrics, or any other non- knitted trims to embellish your swatches.
any students wishing to use crochet or handknitting to embellish their samples should also bring crochet hooks / knitting needles, but please note that this is not a taught part of the course due to time constraints.
