Fashion Folio

Fashion Folio

Patrick Lee Yow

The objective of this highly intensive programme is to produce a portfolio of work in order to gain a place on a fashion diploma or degree course, either at Central Saint Martins or elsewhere. You will be given advice about future studies and follow projects that will create a portfolio that represents your own personal approach to fashion design. You will push your understanding of fashion and challenge your preconceived ideas of how to design garments with experimentation, research and unique presentation skills at the heart of everything you do. You will be expected to work hard, find inspiration in new and unexpected places and identify your strengths whilst learning to overcome your limitations. The course only accepts twenty students per group allowing each student a great deal of one-to-one tuition.

"Fashion Folio continues to prove itself as one of the best places to begin fashion education. The diverse backgrounds of the students creates a lively and supportive environment in which to learn, and the projects set allow a combination of individual tuition and group learning, ideal for people of various experience. For passionate students this is an ideal introduction to fashion design studies."
Anne Smith
Dean of the School of Fashion and Textiles, Central Saint Martins.

Structure

Fashion Folio is a full-time course providing two and a half days tuition per week in three terms. These terms are taught on a progressive basis, providing the opportunity to study for up to one academic year. You are recommended to take all three terms, but this is not essential as you can apply to join the course at any starting point. The Fashion Folio course attracts students from all over the world and therefore understands the needs of international students. There are three points of entry based upon the application dates for undergraduate courses in the UK:

Summer Term: Enrol for a full year of Fashion Folio study. Individuals of varying ability are accepted at this point with the view that they have the potential to begin a BA fashion course in October of the following year.

Autumn Term: Enrol for 6 months of study. You are accepted if you have the potential to produce a suitable portfolio of work within six months to present at interview.

Spring Term: You are accepted only if you have previous experience in the field and already have a substantial body of relevant work that shows the potential to assemble a suitable portfolio of work within three months to present at interview.

Curriculum
Subjects covered on the course include fashion design, research, figure drawing, styling, media techniques, colour, layout and presentation. These topics are taught by means of workshops, lectures, demonstrations, visits and individual tuition.

Course Outcomes
The objective of this highly intensive programme is to produce a portfolio of work in order to gain a place on a diploma or degree course, whether at Central Saint Martins or other reputable Fashion colleges.
