This course is aimed at those students wishing to create a portfolio of work in order to gain a place on a diploma or degree course in Fashion Communication and Promotion, or related studies, either at Central Saint Martins or elsewhere. The course will take you on a journey of exploration, forcing you to question, challenge your ideas, and think creatively. The aim of the course is to help you discover your individual voice and create a unique portfolio. The course is ideal for students planning to broaden their career in contemporary fashion at home or abroad.
Using both image and word you will gain an insight into how the fashion industry promotes a vision and through your own research will develop a wider understanding of creative communication and presentation.
Ideas are communicated through a variety of methods and media. Projects are diverse, encompassing styling, photography PR and promotion, through to digital media and drawing.
Fashion Communication Portfolio tutors have wide experience in teaching students from all over the world and particularly understand the needs of international students.
Structure
Fashion Communication Portfolio is a full-time course providing two and a half days tuition per week over three terms. These terms are taught on a progressive basis, providing the opportunity to study for up to one academic year. You are recommended to take all three terms, but this is not essential as you can apply to join the course at any starting point, according to your ability. There are three points of entry based upon the application dates for undergraduate courses in the UK, January, April and September.
October: You are accepted if you have previous experience in the field and have the potential to produce a suitable portfolio of work within three months to present at interview.
January: Individuals of varying ability are accepted at this point with the view that they have the potential to begin a BA fashion course in October the following year, after completing a full year of Fashion Communication Portfolio.
April: You are accepted if you have the potential to produce a suitable portfolio of work within six months to present at interview.
Curriculum
Subjects covered on the course include: drawing and digital media, text, colour, layout, photography and styling, branding, PR, promotion and presentation, fashion history and fashion writing. These topics are taught by means of seminars, lectures, visits, research, individual tuition, self -evaluation and peer group learning.
Please note this course is not a Fashion design or making course.
Course Outcomes
The objective of this highly intensive programme is to develop you skills and produce a portfolio of work in order to gain a place on a diploma or degree course, whether at Central Saint Martins or other reputable Fashion colleges.
Entry Requirements
Entry Requirements
In order to benefit fully from this course you should be at least 18 years old and have some form of education or work experience related to art and design. Previous fashion experience is unnecessary but a deep commitment to the subject and the course is essential for success. You must be proficient in English, both the spoken and written word, to IELTS level 5 or equivalent.
All students will be required to submit a small portfolio of work to reflect their interests in contemporary design, observation skills, and view of fashion
Carol Morgan trained in textiles and is an Associate Lecturer on the BA Fashion Communication and Promotion course at Central Saint Martins. She is a global trend tracker and fashion marketer, identifying what effects design and fashion around the world. A consultant to leading European fashion brands, she has her own creative practice specialising in trends and fashion marketing. She has worked as an international fashion and beauty brand consultant, has been a key speaker at international fashion conferences and visiting lecturer in universities worldwide.
